Starting the journey

Today I started the journey. Last stop before the Austrian border to buy the vignette for the KaTie Mine (=pet name for my KTM). Cloudy weather, 15 degrees Celsius. Not ideal, but at least it was dry.

Today’s destination is Freiberg, a small town in Saxony, Germany. It’s just a little over 800 km to get there, so I reckon on 10-11 hours of relatively monotonous highway riding. The traffic through Austria was not very heavy until about Salzburg. After I crossed the German border, the traffic increased. I had expected that too. I made good progress and stopped at Chimsee.

I had about an hour of rain between Munich and Nuremberg. Not too bad. Although my bike is pretty loaded with luggage, it went better than expected. There were a few traffic jams at the roadworks sections, but I was able to squeeze through between the queues so it didn’t slow me down too much.

About 200 km before my destination, the sun came out again. I slipped out of my rain gear and carried on. When I arrived in Freiberg at around 6 pm, the accommodation I had booked was locked! I called the contact number I had received from Booking and a lady explained that I had to get the key from a locker with a numerical code. I did this and moved into my room. Later I explored the area and bought something to eat for the next day.

I did 835 kilometers this day and this is what the total trip counter was showing.
